Thank you for visiting my website [last updated 24 August 2010].

A quick word about me: I am Professor of Education at the University of Stirling, UK, where I co-direct our Laboratory for Educational Theory, and editor-in-chief of Studies in Philosophy and Education. I write about the theory and philosophy of education, the methodology of educational research, and about education policy. I conduct research on such topics as lifelong learning, citizenship, democratic education, curriculum, and vocational education. I am President-Elect of the Philosophy of Education Society USA and have been awarded an International Francqui Professorship by the Francqui Foundation (for 2011). For more about my work, please go to research projects.

Below is an overview of new publications for 2010. There is new work on complexity theory, deconstruction, the 'what works' discussion, lifelong learning, democratic education and emancipation, plus my book Good education in an age of measurement in which I argue for a reconnection with the question of purpose in education. An update on the presentations I have given so far in 2010 can be found on the presentations page. I have more articles or chapters in press and will update this website when they appear. In the autumn I anticipate the publication of the Swedish translation of Good education in an age of measurement. Also, Paradigm publishers has scheduled paperback editions of Good education in an age of measurement and G.H. Mead's The philosophy of education for the autumn.
